According to a news that was published by the Vanguard Newspaper online this morning, it was reported that indications, emerged last week that the jostle for inclusion in the cabinet of the next Federal Government administration, had intensified as some Muslims pleaded with the President-elect, Chief Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to give more ministerial appointments to members of their own faith than their Christian counterparts.
It was reported that they begged Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to give Muslims in Muslim-majority states at least four ministerial appointments per geo-political zone after his inauguration on May 29th.
Vanguard reported that, there are six states in each of the six geo-political zones we have in the South-South, South-West, North-Central, North-East and North-West but, only the South-East zone has five states and the 1999 Constitution (as amended) provided that, each of the 36 states of the Federation, must have one native in the Federal cabinet.
The source, who spoke to Vanguard’s correspondent under the condition of anonymity said that, “In a meeting last week, some Muslims told Bola Tinubu that Muslims must be given highest offices.
The implication of the Muslims’ lobby is that, any geo-political zone where people of their own faith are in the majority, then the Muslims should have at least four Ministers in Bola Tinubu’s cabinet while the Christians should be contented with two slots alone.
