So sad as 30-year-old man identified as Hamza Umar, a resident of Rafin-Albasa in the Bauchi metropolis has been arrested by the Bauchi State Police Command for allegedly setting a young girl, Hafsat Bala, ablaze on the 18th of June 2023.
A press release by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, Anipr revealed that the victim invaded the residence of the accused and walked around the residence on the instructions of her elder sister as she posited.
He asked her what brought her into his compound and In response, the girl told him that she was sent by her eldest sister to come and kill him.
The accused (Mr. Hamza Umar) tried to send her away from his compound, but the victim resisted, claiming that she was asked to bury some charms at the corner of the House.
The suspect further asked the victim to remove what she claimed to have buried in his compound but she refused. The suspect became furious at this point and poured her kerosene and set her ablaze in his compound, claiming she was a witch.”
Acting on credible information, the police rushed to the scene of the incident and evacuated the victim to Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH), Bauchi for immediate medical attention.
Meanwhile, an investigation has been launched to unravel the mystery and the suspect will be charged in court for established offenses upon completion of the investigation.
